More than 500 years ago, El Altar was believed to be one of the tallest volcanoes on Earth—until a massive eruption created a majestic crater now surrounded by nine jagged peaks. The highest of them, El Obispo (5,319 m), gives birth to the stunning Yellow Lagoon (Laguna Amarilla).
In our 2-day trekking tour, you’ll hike through surreal landscapes straight out of a fairytale, past highland forests, and into pure wilderness. With a bit of luck, you may even spot Andean condors, deer, or coyotes along the way.
