Countryside Biking Tour - Full Day Tour Itinerary

1. Depart Geotours office by private transport and enjoy the 40 minute scenic drive through the Andes to La Suiza, located 2900 meters (9515 feet) in altitude, where we will hop on our bikes for a lovely downhill ride to Manteles.
2. Enjoy the fresh, clean air as you observe the variety of crops that color the mountains you pass on this gentle ride through the countryside.
3. Arrive at the farm, where you will sample delicious, freshly- squeezed juice from the harvest.
4. Our guide will lead you to explore the different crops such as Ecuadorian tree tomatoes, babaco, corn and potatoes.
5. You may also wish to take the opportunity to feed the guinea pigs with newly cultivated grass.
6. Learn how the land is farmed, what a typical day is like for the farmers, and other interesting facts about the local environment.
7. Having worked up an appetite we will be treated to a traditional farmhouse lunch.
8. Upon request lunch can be complete with “Cuy” (an Ecuadorian specialty of roasted guinea pig).
9. Special dietary restrictions/intolerances can be accommodated with advance notice.
10. After lunch we will bike through the remarkable Patate valley for about 10 km, cross country, to reach a special scenic point. From this lookout there will be an extraordinary panoramic view of Tungurahua volcano with extensive vistas below.
11. To finish our journey we head back to Patate to sample the famous and mouth-watering “arepas,” a traditional bread made with pumpkin, cornmeal and sugar, a favorite of locals and tourists alike.
12. Arepas are best washed down with the locally produced and delicious grape chicha.
13. Enjoy the relaxing ride in our van back to Baños as you think about the fond memories you will have from this trip.
